Structure of the Finland Football Leagues

A summertime football league for players in cold climates across Europe, the Veikkausliiga (formerly called “Futisliiga” in Finland) runs from April to October. There are 12 teams in the league, and after two rounds of play, each team is split into a championship and challenger groups. The victor gets promoted to Veikkausliiga, while the losing team is demoted to Ykkönen. The second-last team and the Ykkönen runner-up square battle in a two-leg play-off. A league footballer made 24,400 euros a year on average in 2010. A founding member of the European Professional Football Leagues association is Veikkausliiga.
